Ventenac

Ventenac is a charming village in the Narbonne region, built in an amphitheater-like formation on a hillside offering a magnificent view over the pleasant plain of Canet, Raissac, and Saint-Nazaire, watered by the Aude River. The Canal du Midi, lined with magnificent trees, flows at the foot of the village.

It is a typical wine-growing village situated along the Canal du Midi and dominated by a dual-structure château: one part dedicated to winemaking and the other serving as a residence.

The latter was built in the 18th century on the ruins of a 12th-century fortified castle. This large building—featuring a square tower that overlooks the plain and beautiful Italian-style terraced gardens—is extended on its right side by a "folie vigneronne" (an elaborate wine estate manor); this 19th-century architectural gem opens directly onto the Canal du Midi.
